 Kyoshi Nathan Ingram—Chief Instructor

  

Kyoshi Nathan Ingram is the founder and Chief Instructor of the Deadly Art of Survival Karate System.  He has been training and teaching martial arts for over 40-years.  Kyoshi also is a 16 time Bare Knuckle Champion way before Ultimate Fighting was recognized.  

Kyoshi began his training in 1968 under the instruction of Sensei Angel Crespo in the Shotokan System of Karate, and at the same time, White Crane Kung Fu with Si Fu Peter Chan.  He then went on to study Shotokan with Shihan Hector Martinez as well as Goju Karate with Sensei Tim Yearwood.  As a young man growing up in the Chinatown area, Kyoshi also studied several Kung Fu systems including: Northern Preying Mantis and Loong Fu Pai, just to name a few. 

Early in his career as a Martial Artist, Kyoshi won many bare knuckle championships including, 1976 America karate Championship, East Coast Karate Kung Fu Championship and the all Black Belt Fighter of the Year in 1976.  On November 26, 1981 Kyoshi was given the highest citizens award in the city by then Mayor Edward Koch for single handedly stopping a bank robbery.  He also obtained international recognition when he was named New Yorker of the Week by New York One News.  Recently inducted in the Karate Hall of Fame, he was also featured in Fit Magazine for his dedication to his Rape Prevention Program.  It is considered rare for a Martial Artist to be featured in a magazine other than a Karate Magazine. 

Kyoshi has worked in his community for many years and has taught and trained over 10,000 students.  He has produced over 50 champions and his students have won over one thousand awards.  Kyoshi has been given many awards and honors for his dedication to his community.  He has been featured in many newspapers, has made several television appearances and has participated in OVER 700 demonstrations.  He is also known as one of the best – conditioned Martial Artist in the country, and has won awards for his physique and conditioning.

 

Lin Sai Ying—Tai Chi Instructor

Lin Sai Ying began her formal Tai Chi / Wu Shu training under the famous Martial Arts Master Chen Zhen and quickly became a master of Tai Chi. Specializing in Chen, Yang, Sun and Wu Family Styles of Tai Chi, as well as Tai Chi Sword, Wu Dang Sword, Tai Chi Broad Sword and Fan.

She is a true exponent of traditional Chinese Culture and Martial Arts. In 1998, she won the first place in Tai Chi and Tai Chi Sword competition hosted by New York Tai Chi Association.

 

Sensei Ishmael Alvarado—Karate Instructor

 

Sensei Ishmael Alvarado started Karate training under Kyoshi Nathan Ingram in 1979, joined United States Marine Corps. 1985 to 1993, Came back to Kyoshi in 1994 and has dedicated his entire karate career in the style of Sho-Ku- Jitsu Ryu.  

Sensei Ishmael won over 30 tournaments, including 1995 & 1996 Battle of the Champions NYC Boys Clubs Grand Champion in Kata, 1996 & 1997 Battle of Westchester  1st Place Kata in Men’s Advance division.

Sensei Ishmael also assisted Kyoshi in the women’s self defense class as featured on NY 1 segment of NY of the week as well as being featured in FIT Magazine’s April 2001 article on Kyoshi’s rape prevention program.

Michael Garica is a US Marine certified under the National Academy of Sports Medicine for physical training and physical therapy. He is also a third generation Wingchun Kungfu instructor of the late Yip man; a master of the late Bruce Lee. He is also a two time Golden Glove boxing champion and a first degree black belt in Kosen Jiu-Jitsu.
